Inhalt. Der Roman spielt in der Lausitz während des Großen Nordischen vierzehnjährige sorbische Waisenjunge Krabat tritt eine Lehrstelle in einer Mühle im Koselbruch bei Schwarzkollm an. Die Mühle stellt sich jedoch schon nach kurzer Zeit als eine „Schwarze Schule“ heraus, in der der Müllermeister jeweils zwölf Mühlknappen in der Schwarzen Kunst unterrichtet.
In seinem 1971 erschienenen Roman »Krabat« behandelt Otfried Preußler einen Stoff aus dem Sagenkreis der Lausitzer Wenden, die nahe seiner nordböhmischen Heimat leben. Die Hauptfigur Krabat lässt sich in dieser Geschichte mit bösen Mächten ein und verstrickt sich darin.
